My Fall Favorites pt. I

I will admit, I am a relatively new believer in the loveliness of Fall. I used to be a 100%, gun-ho, YAY SUN!, Summer lovin’ kinda girl, but I guess getting older for me means that I actually hate the sun and the heat that it gives and I can’t wait for it to cool down just a touch. And by “a touch”, I mean like please cool down 30 degrees I am melting away into nothing. especially after this crazy roller coaster of a summer. We had a day in July where it was 102 degrees. ONE HUNDRED AND TWO. I’m sure that, for my Southern friends, this is probably nothing new. I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, where it basically rains for 9 months out of the year. 65 degrees is my jam. I absolutely cannot handle anything over 73 without a breeze. So, as a Fall-lovin’ newbie, I’d like to present to you a few reasons why I totally love Autumn in the PNW.

Scarves & Beanies

Bad hair day? Throw a beanie on your head. Forgot to put dry shampoo in your hair right before you ran out the door? Grab that beanie again! Did you just notice that baby food that’s been chilling on your favorite shirt for who knows how long? Drape a lovely scarf around your neck and over your shoulders and call it good. Or how about when you need to breastfeed your baby but are more of the modest type in public? Use your large scarf as a cover. Hurray! Scarves and beanies are like life’s little essentials, especially for moms.

Boots With Leggings

I LOVE this time of year where I’m able to dust my boots off from being in storage for a whopping three months and put them on these little feet of mine. Cowgirl boots, Wellies, booties, I love ‘em all. And what’s better than wearing boots? Wearing your boots with LEGGINGS. I’m serious. If I could wear boots, leggings, and tunics for the rest of time, I would. Any excuse to not put jeans on is highly favored one in my book.

Fall Perfumes

Oh my stars. How much do I love a good Amber-smelling perfume? Let me count the ways! I have around 8 bottles of delicious, aromatic, rustic, golden-amber smelling perfumes just waiting for me to use them all season long. Here are some of my most favorites: Burberry Brit by Burberry, Twilight Woods and Sensual Amber (both are from Bath & Body Works), Hypnotic Poison by Dior (which was my wedding day perfume- awww) and Sandalwood Musk from a quirky little store in Olympia, WA called Archibald Sisters. All of these fragrances makes me want to curl up in the corner of a cozy little bookstore with a chai tea latte and read for hours. They are all just divine.

Delicious Baking

Whenever I start a baking project, I always think I can improvise and wing it with the ingredients in the recipes just like I can (read: try) to do with cooking. And every time that I do this, it almost always never works. When will a rookie like me ever learn? I digress. The other day I made some of the most SCRUMPTIOUS gluten-free (because I’m on that train now) zucchini bread muffins and they are so so good. Seth even likes them! We’ve had them for breakfast several times this week already. And, as a bonus, my home smelled like warm cinnamon for hours afterward. I used organic sugar in this recipe, and next time I will try to crunch some numbers beforehand and see if I can use applesauce instead of sugar. Yummo! (And hopefully that conversation will work for me; fingers crossed!)
