As Summer has officially arrived, this will be my final Spring Bucket List post! When I looked at the weather report for last week, I saw that Friday would have perfect picnic weather! My mom and brother came along as well, and we all had a blast. It was such a much needed, relaxing afternoon.
Of course we started off our fun day at the beach by throwing rocks into the water (Seth’s favorite activity ever), and Uncle Daniel joined in on the fun as well!
After some fun in the sun (a little too much for this fair-skinned mama and her baby), we sat down to eat our lunch. I packed us all some sandwiches, fruit, chips, juice for Seth and iced tea for the adults.
I recently went to the store to pick up my favorite herbal tea- Celestial Seasonings’ Watermelon Lime Zinger- to make into an iced tea, and they didn’t have any more! I was so bummed, that I think I even exclaimed my woe out loud in the grocery store. So I picked up the next best thing I could find, Country Peach Passion herbal tea, and that is what we enjoyed at our picnic. It’s very light and refreshing, especially with just a little bit of sweetener (I used agave).
After our lunch break, Seth and I went straight back to the water to throw rocks. We even found an empty crab shell! (Poor little guy). The things that you can find at the beach are so fascinating.
After a while, Uncle Daniel and Seth went off to the playground while I relaxed in the shade.
I don’t think people who aren’t fair-skinned will understand this, but the sun and heat completely wipe me out. Like, after I spend a good 20 or so minutes in the sun, I’m good for the rest of the day. Just looking at the sun from the shade is enough to make me happy, but I don’t need to be IN the sun. I also don’t understand how people can go all day at the beach or park, etc, and not be a complete sun-baked zombie afterwards.
After the beach, we visited a delicious ice cream shop in Burien called Sweet Breeze. Man oh man was the ice cream delicious! It’s amazing the difference in taste that fresh, natural ingredients make, as opposed to pre-packaged ice cream with chemicals in it. Yuck. I totally recommend this ice cream shop if you’re anywhere nearby! Even Seth loved it!
The last leg of our adventure ended at my brother’s house, where we looked at his little vegetable garden and I got to relax in the most amazing of hammocks. The moment I laid down it in, it was like all my worries and stress went away. I definitely need one for myself!
I'm really glad my family and I were able to get out in the sun and have a great day being together. I hope that we'll be able to have a few more days like this again this summer!
