I need to be honest with y'all right up front: I completely spaced when it came to planning for this blog post! What I should have done was planted the flower seeds a few weeks ago when I started my Spring Bucket List series so this post could be slightly more exciting then it is, but instead I planted them this week. At least I can laugh at my mistake, right? I'll just have to do an update when the flowers start a-growin' :)
So here's a brief history of plants and I: one time my parents went out of town and my mom asked me to water her plants while she was gone. She left me very specific instructions, because she loves her house plants and some of them are even older than me (I'm about to turn 27). I followed the instructions to a "t", but I still managed to kill at least one plant. Maybe two. Who knows, I tried to repress this memory. When I felt brave enough to try my hand at keeping plants alive again, I managed to kill my tiny succulent plant that barely needs any water! Sigh. All this to say, plants and I have always had a rocky relationship. I don't even know where my desire to even want to own a house plant started, let alone grow four of them! I think my best friend, Jen, has a lot to do with this. She loves any and every type of plant with her whole heart, so it's no wonder that her love of botany has rubbed off on me.
The reason why I chose to put a plant project on my bucket list is that I just wanted an easy, creative project to do. I love to create things, paint things, and make things, so this was a great combo of all of those fun activities.
I found these pots on sale at Target for $0.89 each and painted them with fun designs with some normal acrylic paint:
Here are some close ups of some of the pots. I couldn't get a full shot of the pots with words on them, but those ones say, "Jesus is Alive!" and "Spring is here"
These are the flower seeds that I decided to go with. I wanted to have some colorful, fun types that I would enjoy seeing every time I looked at them. And, bonus, I found these seeds at the Dollar Tree, and all four of these packets came to just $1! I could probably write a whole entire blog post about how much I love Dollar Tree, but I think I'll save that for a later date.
I will spare you the boring details about putting the potting soil into the pots; some things just don't need to be elaborated on. Below is the finished product:
And then for the final touches:
Currently these pretty little pots are sitting on my kitchen window sill where they receive lots of morning and afternoon light. I'm hoping that I'll start to see some little sprouts in a few weeks, but, as I said, I'm a newbie to the whole "plant scene", so I really don't know what to expect! I guess time will tell :)
